As a minimalist my aim is to eliminate distracting elements and shapes. I find great satisfaction in creating ‘silent’ spaces. Getting rid of the ‘noise’ brings out primary spatial characteristics and creates a clean canvas for wonderful products, people or brands.

Minimalistic spaces often need a bit of character to fill up the void, but eventually they carry a strong (personal or professional) identity to a higher level, while at the same time having a unique and strong character of its own. A perfect tension between space and purpose.

Curriculum:
I am a self taught designer with a past in building interiors, making furniture, product development and construction. After going through all the phases from making to designing I know how things are made and what it takes to make them.

1995 - 2007
Several jobs and self employment in building, product development and architecture. Learning by doing.

2007 - 2018
studiojosvandijk projects for international fashion brands like ETQ footwear, G-Star RAW, NIKE, Scotch & Soda, De Bijenkorf, Gsus Sindustries, McGregor, WE Fashion and many more. Besides full store concepts, flagship stores and store refurbishments worldwide I worked on residential, hospitality and office projects.
2015 - 2018
Teacher in Retail Architecture at the Technical University of Delft.
2018
Paused my studio and quit teaching to explore new horizons and have less meetings.
2018
Opened a coffee place in Amsterdam and developed new skills as hospitality entrepreneur, while exploring the field of fine art photography at the same time. The cafe survived the Covid years but dealing with all the changes that came after it, hospitality lost its charm and the urge to create came back. Sold my cafe late 2022.
2022 - 2023
Toured a year with my camper van and cameras through Europe and Morocco.
During my trip photography was a daily occupation which led to several series of both experimental and minimalistic photographs which you can find on artistwithoutaresidence.com
Currently
Came back to Amsterdam in the summer of '23 and currently I work as a freelancer in design, branding, architecture and photography.

Collaborations
I am available as creative partner for (product/interior) design projects as well as photography. I feel comfortable on all levels from strategy, concept development and sketch design to detailing and creative supervision. Guiding a team is optional. Besides that I can fire up creative sessions or provide ideas for strategy and positioning to concepts and designs.
